SS CAM CUP HISTORY

The SS Cam Cup developed into one of the major individual cam competitions in Yahoo Pool, attracting players from many other leagues who would not otherwise necessarily be members of Straightshots by choice!

The SS Cam Cup was initially arranged by Jonathan (crazy_canuck) using a website page designed by Laura, the former SS Head Admin, and Jonathan ran it with the help of Steven (steven.rules) for the opening six competitions before Nish (xlx_nish_xlx) took over for one season. For the first eight Cam Cup competitions, there was only one tournament but it was then split into two divisions for Competition 9 and thereafter.

Division A was for the experienced so-called 'top-knotch' poolers – those who would have been playing in the top interleagues and other cam competitions – whilst Division B attracted other players who may not have been considered to be at the same top level, although some Division B players moved up to join Division A and certainly did not look out of place.

After Nish's involvement, Jonathan resumed running the SS Cam Cup from Season 8 onwards and carried on doing it until Season 15, a total of eight Cam Cup seasons. The SS Cam Cup was considered one of the top individual pool events around, second only to the prestigious 8BR which was widely considered to be the best individual cam competition before Yahoo Pool closed.

SS Co-HA Nigel (en_dk/ENDK) took over running the SS Cam Cup in mid-2012, with one of the League's longest-serving members, namely Marie (milly_molly03), assisting. Shelle, the SS HA at the time, joined the Admin panel in the summer of 2013. For the new-look SS Cam Cup competition in 2012, Division A and B were renamed The Gold Conference and The Silver Conference respectively. And a third tournament, called The Bronze Conference, was formed and run as a 'Consolation Plate' competition for group stage non-qualifiers from the other two Conferences.

Below is a list of all the Gold Conference (Division A) and Silver Conference (Division B) finalists since the competition began. For the purpose of maintaining a chronological order and a list of all finalists, the first competition in Division B has been labeled 'Season 1', which coincided with Season 9 of what became Division A.

Looking through the list of SS Cam Cup winners, Scotsman Kevin reached four successive finals early on, winning three in a row, whilst Ant of England won two consecutive titles and completed a third victory in October 2012. In March 2013, Ant retained the Gold Conference again, taking the title for a record fourth time. He added two more championships in 2013 to take his tally up to six successes.

Since Nigel (en_dk) took over organising the SS Cam Cup, records were kept of all seasons. Unfortunately, there are no archives from previous seasons apart from the finalists.

In all competitions qualifying groups were played, with participants playing between four and six sets. For seasons 16 to 18 inclusive, group qualifiers progressed directly into the Quarter-Finals without the need for a Preliminary Play-Off round; these have been shown as Byes for those two seasons only.
